Buns–SoCS Post

The Friday Reminder and Prompt for #SoCS March 30/18

Tomorrow for Easter lunch a good friend of mine is making hot cross buns. I can’t tell you which part of the meal I’m looking forward to the most; well, actually I can. It’s the ginger cake. I love ginger. Ginger cookies, ginger in Indian dishes, ginger candy…good for the stomach too. I have a thing for sweets, so of course cake is top on my list.

I’m a bread person. I have to have something bready for breakfast every morning, otherwise it doesn’t feel right. This morning I had an English muffin with butter, honey, and cinnamon. Oh, one of my other favorite flavors is cinnamon, in case you didn’t know, which you probably didn’t. The same friend who will be making the hot cross buns is a very good baker, and I have one of her blueberry Earl Grey muffins left to eat when I feel like it. I can’t bake as much as she can, and of course not nearly as much as I would like, because our oven doesn’t work. Everything in our building is old, and the oven is no exception. It can’t hold a temperature. The pilot light doesn’t stay lit. I left a message on the maintenance phone line the other day explaining these things. They said they’d order a new oven. There are so many cookies and scones I haven’t been baking and I need to catch up. Baking is one of the ways I de-stress.

This whole stream-of-consciousness writing thing is kind of fun. I haven’t done it in a while, and I forgot how good it can feel just to let the words flow out.

I used to do my hair up in a bun on top of my head. My hair is very long–the tips reaches to the bottom of my tush–so I would wind it all up into a sort of crown bun and secure it with clips. Sometimes I would get a neck ache because of the weight of my hair. I haven’t done my hair like this in a while. I kind of want to do it again, but I also like having my hair in a long braid down my back. I don’t see many women with braids any more, much less long hair like mine. I thought about cutting it short once, a long time ago, but I could never actually do that. I like my long hair too much, even if it gives me trouble sometimes, like when it’s been in a braid all day and still has tangles in it.

Buns. Food. Hair. What other buns are there? Backsides? I don’t think I’ll talk about that. I think I am done for now.
